What an incredible gym! My first class at CrossFit Glenrothes was on the 2nd April 2019 and since then I have seen massive improvements in my strength, speed, endurance, power and especially in my confidence, motivation and mental health. Today was another PR day which has prompted me to complete this testimonial to explain what an incredible job Andrew Leishman is doing as Head Coach and Owner of CrossFit Glenrothes.

I never imagined feeling so comfortable and relaxed in a gym environment. Many gyms that I have gone to in the past have had a cold atmosphere where you feel intimidated lifting weights that are much less than the other members of public. There is no ego at this box. Everyone who attends the classes are treated equally. The community feeling is excellent as all the members are friendly, helpful and respectful.

Andrew takes the time to explain each workout and discusses different ways to scale each movement to ensure challenge and progression. An element of the classes that I have loved since day one is Andrews attention he gives to Warm-Ups and Cool-Downs. I used to suffer for at least 48 hours after a workout with DOMS when I attended regular gyms. Since focusing on mobility and flexibility with Andrew, I have been able to attend 5 days in a row.

Andrew is a fantastic coach. Even during a busy class he is able to remember each individuals strengths and weaknesses, praises effort and celebrates with you. He reminds you of the massive improvements you have made from day one and encourages us to be proud of our achievements. Andrew is approachable and very easy to talk to. He is always willing to have a chat after class and offer advice with regards to recovery and next steps. He has a genuine interest in helping you achieve your goals.

In 3 months I have gone from struggling to do Push-Ups on a 24” box to completing a WOD consisting of 50 strict Push-Ups. This for me was a massive achievement and goal of mine. From using an empty bar to achieving a Push Jerk PR today of 47.5kg, something I did not imagine achieving so soon into my CrossFit journey.

CrossFit Glenrothes is an excellent facility with an excellent Head Coach and Owner.

Never in my life did I ever think I would find myself waiting outside a gym on a Saturday morning for it to open, not because I’m forcing myself to be there but because I genuinely want to.

I am so grateful that I made the decision to walk into CrossFit Glenrothes on 2nd April 2019. Today, I PR’d both my Clean and Jerk and my Push Press and I cannot describe how great that feels, especially considering when I first walked into the box I could barely lift the training bar above my head. The community inside this box is like nothing you will ever experience at a standard gym. The support from Andrew is phenomenal, but what I did not anticipate was the support from the other members. Finishing last during a WOD is not something I ever worry about now because you are cheered on and hyped up by everyone who finishes before you. There is no judgement, no pressure, no ego’s because everyone from all walks of life enter the gym with the same goal: to improve.

Andrew takes time during each session to do a thorough warm-up then goes through each element of the work out to ensure everyone knows exactly what to do and how to do it. Each work out is followed by a cool down with some mobility, which makes such a huge difference to recovery afterwards.

Andrews best coaching quality, in my opinion, is the fact that he praises effort just as much as he praises outcome. It does not matter what you are lifting, what your final time is, whether or not you scaled the workout; Andrew will praise you for the effort that you put into it, regardless of whether you make the lift or beat the time cap. I cannot thank him enough for the time and patience he has had with me and the difference it has made to my own confidence.

My own personal goals have massively shifted from being aesthetic, wanting to look a certain way, to just wanting to be stronger and fitter. I want to lift more. I want to get to a stage where a 25 minute time cap does not scare me half to death because my endurance will prevail. As my performance improves, the original aesthetic goals will ultimately follow without being the focus.

I could not be happier with what is being provided at CrossFit Glenrothes and I can’t wait to see my progression in the future.

I’ve been doing CrossFit for 3 months now and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I think I’m the fittest and strongest I’ve ever been. I’m seeing the fastest incremental increases in the weights on lifts I’ve been doing for years. I’m also in the best shape I’ve been in for a while. I’ve been training shoulders for 2 years and within 3 months of CrossFit I’m seeing the definition I’ve been aiming for all these years. And I’m finally starting to see abs 🙌

I also find it a humbling experience in 2 ways. Firstly I used to think I could do certain lifts, but CrossFit definitely pushes the boundaries of my strength. But on the other hand, there’s things I never thought I’d be able to do, and now I can (almost… pull-ups 🤣).

I’ve never done any exercise before where I crave going back and hate missing out on classes. But that’s how I feel doing CrossFit. I can’t recommend it enough.
