Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire

Jenny

After the birth of my daughter, I was suffering with postnatal depression. My mental health nurses encouraged me to find a new daily activity, that got me out of the house. That’s when I found CrossFit Glenrothes, and I’ve never looked back since. CrossFit Glenrothes did unbelievable things for my mental health, and continues to do so to this day! CrossFit gives me so much more than just improving my fitness. It has given me confidence and an amazing community. A community full of support and friendship, which believe me can get you through any workout. A community where we celebrate everyone’s achievements! CrossFit is like a mountain that has no summit, because there is always something new to learn, a time to beat and something to achieve which makes it addictive and exciting. I went to CrossFit Glenrothes for my mental health, but the community, amazing support and outstanding fitness program, made me stay.

“I came back to CrossFit Glenrothes in June 2022 as I was very unhappy with my body and knew it would give me the push I needed. I have tried several conventional gyms in the past and I have never had the motivation and support like I do here. I set myself a goal to attend at least 4 sessions a week which I have stuck to and now see them as part of my lifestyle as they don’t only benefit me physically but also mentally. I always look forward to going as I’m not just getting a workout but also being part of such a friendly community. I now have such a love for CrossFit and am constantly in competition to better myself every time I go. Photos from June 2022 to December 2022 I can honestly say I’ve never felt healthier, stronger and confident.”

“My two kids also come to CrossFit on a Saturday morning and love it. They are learning new skills every session whilst thoroughly enjoying it ☺️”

“Having had a rough 2021, I was not in a good place physically or mentally. I had terrible eating and drinking habits, was incredibly unfit and the heaviest I had ever been. It was at this point I reached out to one of the coaches at CrossFit Glenrothes to try and break a trend and get myself in shape.

We discussed my eating and drinking habits, my fitness routine and my general lifestyle at which point we devised a plan to overcome the bad habits. The coach took it upon themselves to make me accountable, not just to myself, but to them and the gym too.

That was October 2021, at that time I weighed 255lbs, thankfully today I weigh 201lbs and owe a massive debt of gratitude not just to the coaches, but to the CrossFit Glenrothes community as a whole who helped with lots of positive words of encouragement during my journey.

Knowing what I do now, I could never go back to a conventional gym and for anyone looking to improve not just their fitness, but their overall health and mental wellbeing, I would happily recommend CrossFit Glenrothes, not only am I a member but my children of 12 and 8 are too and they absolute love it!”

“Been training at CrossFit Glenrothes for over a year now and coming from fighting martial arts for many years to following CrossFit Glenrothes’ program I can certainly say I have made huge improvements with my strength and fitness and overall mobility. All my Olympic lifts have increased by huge amounts since I first started and my stamina has went miles ahead of what it ever was. Everyone at the gym is super supportive no matter the time you take to complete a workout or the weight you are lifting. The coaches want you to be the best you can be and improve every session which isn’t hard for the coaches to do!! I have never trained anywhere with such a positive atmosphere as everyone CFG!”

“I started at CrossFit Glenrothes a wee while ago and it was the best decision I made. CrossFit has helped me not only become a lot stronger and fitter but it has also helped me mentally. I started at crossfit Glenrothes really struggling with my mental health, and with all of the support from coaches and other members, I’m now in a much better position. I can do things I never thought I’d be able to do, they’ve helped me over come so many fears (box jumps, handstands) and I’ve made friends for life!”

“3 years I have been coming to CrossFit Glenrothes and honestly it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. From not doing much exercise for the most of my early twenties except going out for a cycle a few times during the summer I came into the gym clueless, however through the support of the coaches and everyone who comes to the gym I have came on leaps and bounds, getting stronger, fitter and even more flexible each session. The main reason I kept coming was the people, I now know 50 or 60 people who are all great, supportive and a really good laugh, it’s not just about the little goals I achieve each week but the laugh and community spirit the gym has.”

I’m a former competitive freediver and instructor but spearfishing is now my main focus. Prior to starting Crossfit, most of my physical exercise was very much water based, with a lot of pool training both surface and underwater swimming (both distance and depth) with some cardio exercise (mainly running) and light gym work. I initially got interested in Crossfit exercises as a way of incorporating combined strength and endurance exercises in my gym work when training for long underwater swims and I used to do things like ½ cindy and similar AMRAP multi-movement exercises which I found beneficial for building lactic tolerance. I finished competitive freediving in 2016 and so was looking for a range of more balanced training to keep me generally fit. I was hill running a bit, spearfishing and pool training (but not 5 times a week like previously). I moved to Markinch in 2018 and I found out about Crossfit Glenrothes and was keen to give it a try, I started in 2019 and I’ve never looked back since.

I’m in my mid-fifties now and the mix of cardio, strength, gymnastic skills and co-ordination is just so good for maintaining all round fitness which is really important as you get older. Learning new skills feels so good and the great revelation for me is learning that in weightlifting it’s the combination of strength, flexibility and co-ordination that’s required to complete successful lifts. The instruction I’ve received has been spot on and makes such a difference when learning new skills. I broke my ankle in January 2020 and coming back to the gym and doing exercises which helped rebuilt my strength, balance and co-ordination in the damaged leg was so important in my recovery and I’m hugely grateful to both Andrew and Vicki for their help and encouragement.

My overall fitness has greatly improved, especially strength and co-ordination in a wide range of movements. Being part of the community of Crossfit Glenrothes when we’re all pushing ourselves in the workout builds great camaraderie and that’s a great motivator to train harder and more frequently. It’s just such a good thing to be part of and helps me maintain a solid base level of fitness and in a really enjoyable way. This base is so important for my freediving and spearfishing and together with regular diving and other breath hold pool training helps me to maintain the ability I’ve trained hard over the years to achieve.

Thank you so much Andrew and Vicki (and the other instructors) for building a such a brilliant gym and community that is so inclusive and is such a joy to be part of.
